Serpent's Skull in Eberron
Hungry, Hungry Hippo
Sar, the 7th of Aryth
At dawn, the group reaches the Korir River and turns left to go upstream. Around mid-morning, they encounter a forest called The Screaming Jungle on both sides of the river which gets denser as they continue on. The river current slows down some as some of the trees grow out of the water along the shore. A short time later, they come around a bend and see three lizard folk warriors hunting a lone hippopotamus, they begin yelling and beating the hippo with the shafts of their javelins, enraging the poor creature. The hippo turns away from the lizardfolk and charges through the water at the first canoe. It sinks underneath the canoe and capsizes it. Kreshton and Dadak are thrown into the water but Kreshton rights himself effortlessly and Dadak finishes the spell he began casting. Chydak lobs a bomb as Pol throws his mindblade at the animal. Summoned by Dadak’s spell, two crocodiles appear to menace the hippo. Joffa climbs out of canoe and swims closer, loosing a blast or two. Kreshton wades through the water to attack two lizardfolk simultaneously. Chydak, paddling for all he is worth, gets Pol within melee range of the hippo. Kreshton moves to confront the hippo as he dispatches one of the lizard folk and an eldritch blast deals with the second. The hippo rears above Kreshton but misses him while Pol deals him a blow that ends the fight.
At the end of the day’s paddling upriver, the deep sound of a large waterfall can be heard in the distance ahead. The group exits the river to camp for the night, planning to port their canoes around the waterfall the next morning.
